2008-2012 Cadillac SRX Keyless Entry Remote Tutorial

Press lock to lock all doors.  Press unlock once to unlock the driver's door.  Press twice to unlock all doors.  In the summer you may want to hold down the unlock button.  This will open the windows to allow the vehicle to cool off before you enter.

Press and hold the power liftgate button.  This will open or close the liftgate.

The panic button can be used to locate the vehicle by pressing once.  The lights will flash and the horn will chirp.  In an emergency you can sound the alarm by holding down the panic button for 2 seconds.  Press again to end the alarm.

To use remote start press the lock button then press and hold the remote start button.  If you want your climate controls to perform particular tasks (like heating the seats and blowing heat in the winter, or the opposite in the summer) set your climate control defaults in the vehicle personalization menu.  Instructions can be found in the owner's manual.

I lost one of my 2010 srx remotes. What can i do to stop that remote from working.

When the keyless entry remote programming procedure is performed, all learned remotes are dropped and any remotes that are programmed during the procedure will be the only ones that will work. The programming procedure is in the owner's manual. If you don't have an owner's manual you can obtain the instructions here:

I have a 2012 SRX and I started getting a "remote not detected" message" while driving. How can I fix this?
Posted @ Wednesday, January 11, 2012 8:15 AM by Lucy
You can put the remote into the transmitter pocket located inside the console storage area or glovebox. It will probably be detected there. Regardless, you should change the remote's battery as soon as possible. This will most likely solve the problem. If changing the battery and putting it in the transmitter pocket doesn't solve the issue then you'll need to replace the remote.

My keyless remote for my 2008 SRX fell apart and I lost the "remote" am using the key only for access to the vehicle. The other day (remember no keyless anything) I had the keys in my pocket, got out of the car without locking it, and somehow the car automatically locked!! Imagine my shock since I haven't been able to use any keyless locking for months. Can you explain this to me?
Posted @ Saturday, March 10, 2012 12:30 AM by Mary Hock
There are two things I can think of right now that can cause that. 1. Before anwering I'd need to know if the vehicle is equipped with PROX entry. If your key slides into the bottom of the remote then the vehicle has PROX. If the key is separate from the remote then the vehicle does not have PROX.
If the vehicle does not have prox then the vehicle customization menu must have become set to lock the doors when you leave. If the vehicle does have PROX there must be another working PROX remote somewhere in the vehicle.
Posted @ Saturday, March 10, 2012 6:34 AM by Remotes And Keys
I must not have PROX as my key is separate. I can't imagine that anything would be set to lock when I leave. I leave the keys in the ignition all the time. I've not pulled them out a lot and left them in the car, however, so am wondering about that action. I'm also wondering if the remote that fell apart is hiding somewhere in the car! Thanks!

I have the 2012 SRX and the range sucks on the remote. Is there anything you can do to expand it? You have to be within 10' of the vehicle to remote start which defeats the purpose.
Posted @ Wednesday, March 14, 2012 1:07 PM by Ed Hunt
Have you tried changing the batteries. These remotes are known for going through batteries very fast. Weak batteries are known to affect range. Also, do you have these problems all the time or just sometimes, maybe when you are near power lines and other sources of interference?
Posted @ Thursday, March 15, 2012 8:33 AM by Remotes And Keys
It's only 1 month old but I suppose the batteries in both remotes could be bad. Problem happens always. My office window is 20' from my car and it won't work.

I have a 2008 Cadillac SRX and the remote is not working I have changed the batteries several times, but the result that I always get is that the remote workes for like 2 min and then stops compleetly. can you please Advice on what to do? I also got the tire pressure light on and this also came on at the same time when the remot stopped working I am not sure if bothe problems are related or not?
Posted @ Friday, April 20, 2012 11:05 PM by Ali
We are hearing about a lot of troubles with these remotes. The problem may be the remote or it may be the system. You can order a new remote to try. If it has the same problem then you know it is the system. If the system is the issue I suggest getting an aftermarket system installed. Getting the dealer to replace the original system will be costly.

I lost one of my key fobs for my 2012 SRX. Is there anyway to locate the fob electronically?
Posted @ Sunday, July 08, 2012 4:20 PM by John
I have a 2010 srx that did not come with an automatic start and would like a factory one put on it. Is this possible? I want to just program the key fobs I have now rather than getting one that is not compatible with my key fob and having to carry more than one key fob around.

My wife just lost her key fob (2012 SRX) and I also wonder if their isn't some way it could be located electronically (could ONSTAR help)?

Can you reprogam a smart key remote for a 2010 srx caddy from a used one from another 2010 srx? I have two and can't seeem to get it to work I have been told that once they are programmed that they can't be used on another car. Is that right? Any ideas, thoughts,or information. I have gone through all the procedures in the owners manual several times. Thanks.

Got a SRX 2008 Yhe problems with my remotes is that I can't change the programation for seats and mirrors. Any issues?
Posted @ Monday, March 04, 2013 4:34 PM by Yves
This answer is for Amphai Pearl. You should go to an Automotive Alarm Shop and have a "remote start add-on module that uses the factory remote" installed. If you can't find a decent Alarm shop then you can always go to Best Buy.

This answer is for David H. Bassett. In theory if someone was using the right scientific equipment it could be found. However, I've never heard of anyone doing this or of anyone using the appropriate equipment for this purpose. If someone were to invent a way for ONSTAR to integrate a detector in their vehicle systems I bet ONSTAR would pay big money for it.
There is a remote finder on the market but you have to have a special transponder on the same keychain as the remote and that is what the finder looks for. It can't help you since your remote is already lost.

Hello Rovella Phillips, To change the battery you'll need a small flat head screwdriver. There is a seam between the front case and back case. About 25% up from the bottom of the right side seam there is a small gap about a millimeter wider than the rest of the seam. Stick the flat head in there and gently pry the cases apart. Once it releases there do the same elsewhere around the case until the front and back completely come apart. You'll see the battery. Simply replace the CR2032 with a new one in the correct position (+ towards the back case.) Close the remote.

Hello Ken, Bad news. Most remotes will not work with 1 trip through the washer/drier. Your toyota remote has experienced nothing short of a miracle to go through multiple washes and still work. The good news is that we have your remote in stock at the moment.

Hello Barbie, if you exit the vehicle and leave the remote inside the vehicle will lock because Cadillac doesn't want someone else to be able to enter and drive your vehicle away. Either make sure you have a second remote with you when you exit, or don't leave any remote in the vehicle.

Dear Ivan Salmons, The 2010+ Cadillac SRX remotes can not be easily reused. They lock upon programming and locked remotes can't be reused on other vehicles unless they get unlocked first. It is very rare to encounter a locksmith with the ability to unlock them and if you did find one the cost would be not be significantly better than buying a new remote.

Hello Yves, I hope I understand your question correctly. Below I am pasting the Seat/Mirror Instructions from your owners manual:
Memory Seat and Mirrors
On vehicles with the memory feature the buttons are located on the driver’s door.
1: Saves the seating position for driver 1.
2: Saves the seating position for driver 2.
S: Recalls the easy exit position.
To program the buttons:
1. Adjust the driver’s seat including the seatback recliner, both outside mirrors, and the throttle and brake pedals. See Outside Power Heated Mirrors on page 2-43 and Adjustable Throttle and Brake Pedal on page 2-28 for more information.
2. Press and hold button 1 for at least three seconds. Two beeps confirm that the settings have been saved.
3. Repeat the procedure for a second driver using button 2.
The vehicle must be in PARK (P) to recall the stored settings.
Press either button to recall the stored setting. Each time a memory button is pressed, a single beep will sound.
To recall the stored positions when unlocking your vehicle with the remote keyless entry transmitter, see DIC Vehicle Customization on page 3-62.
To stop recall movement of the memory feature, press one of the power seat or mirror controls.
Easy Exit Seat
S Press the exit button to recall the exit position when
the vehicle is in PARK (P). You will hear a beep.
The memory seat and easy exit features can also be
programmed using the Driver Information Center (DIC).
See DIC Vehicle Customization on page 3-62.

My husband's key and fob to our 2008 Cadillac SRX were stolen, and we were wondering if it's possible for us to reprogram the remaining key fob ourselves so that the stolen set will not work. If so, and if we reprogram it, will the thieves still be able to get into the car using the physical key in the door lock? They know where we live, so we are nervous that they will try to steal the car. We are stationed with the Navy in Spain, so getting to a dealership here is a little more difficult for us. If you could tell us if it's possible for us to reprogram the fob ourselves, I would greatly appreciate it. Thank you.

How do you open to change the battery on the Cadillac SRX key fob?
Posted @ Monday, August 26, 2013 11:00 AM by Dan H
This answer is for John who wants the car to stop using the horn when he locks the car.
Use your DIC (Driver Information Center.) You can turn that feature on and off. It is where you have 6 buttons. An up and down button to the left. Then one looks like a check, another looks like a little check in one of 2 boxes, another looks like a car with a little "i" next to it and the other looks like a road. Turn the vehicle on and keep the car in park. Use the DIC menu to go to the Remote Door Lock Settings. Choose either OFF (to do nothing when you press lock on the remote), LIGHTS ONLY (for the exterior lights to flash when you press lock on the remote), HORN ONLY, or HORN & LIGHTS. Then go down to Exit Feature settings.

Is a locksmith required, or is it just a complicated reset/unlock procedure? I have a fob (RKE) from a 2012 SRX & would like to re-use it for a 2013 SRX.

I have a 2010 CTS and would like to know if the OEM remote start feature is available.
Posted @ Saturday, December 21, 2013 7:55 AM by David
Nancy: The Keyless Entry Receiver or the Antenna for the receiver is most likely the culprit. It is more likely than both remotes going bad in the same way. Unfortunately it will be costly to replace the receiver.
CrunchTheNumbers: The programming procedure does not require a locksmith. You can do it yourself and the instructions should be in the glove box owner's manual.
Ed B: Does the alarm sound for a second or two or is it continuous?
David: You can call your local GM dealer parts department and give them your VIN and ask if the vehicle is equipped with remote start. If not, it can be installed but it is expensive and you may decide to have an aftermarket system installed at a local alarm shop instead.

I have a 2008 SRX, I'm having a problem with the unlock remote. Vehicle runs great, but when i go outside in the morning, i push the button to unlock the door and nothing happens, then i use the key to unlock the door, get in put the key in the ignition, all the lights come on, i go to start the vehicle and the alarm goes off. The truck will not start for awhile when this happens, use to be just a day but now is happening more often. Took it to the dealership, first time changed the battery, second time changed to remote and key (my request), third time i asked them to service the antitheft system, because after it started it said theft was attempted and the manual said when this happened to have it serviced, they put it on the machine this time again and the machine said the wiring under the floor mat in the front seat could be corroded, so i let them check, they said they were and changed them, the fourth time a week later it happened again and they towed it from my house when it happened but when they got it to the dealership, it wasn't happening again. They kept it for two weeks, hoping it would happen again, placed it on the machine and nothing is showing wrong, they drove it and still nothing. I had them replace the starter on a suggestion from my brother, and they did. but while talking to a friend they said it sounds like the problem is before i start the car, which i think is correct. it starts with the remote not unlocking the door and then the antitheft system not responding to the key or remote. any suggestions on what i should have done next, very frustrated and need my vehicle to be reliable. Please Help

I went to test drive a 2012 Cadillac CTS. When the dealership took the key out of the ignition, the car was still running. Do you have any idea why this happened, if it is common or a fluke, or can be fixed?
Posted @ Thursday, July 10, 2014 6:43 PM by Patricia
if the driver window is down or the door is open, will not start unless keyless remote is cycled on/off. is this normal
Posted @ Friday, November 14, 2014 6:35 AM by wayne
Carmen: An automotive locksmith can do it. You don't need the dealer.
Elizabeth: There are multiple possibilities. I suggest taking the vehicle to an automotive electrician for diagnostics.
David: If you purchased the remote or programming instructions through us then we can walk you through the programming over the phone.
Michelle: Depends which year your SRX is. Open your owner's manual to the DIC (driver information center) section. It explains how to change those settings.
David: First check that you have the correct remote. then check that you have the correct instructions. If you bought either from us we'll help you get it programmed.
Patricia: That is a problem with the car. It is not a common problem.
Wayne: It is normal.

2012 SRX, suddenly the lift gate doesn't open when I use the key fob control. Everything else works great. What should I look for?
Posted @ Saturday, December 13, 2014 2:07 PM by john
John: First I'd seek out an automotive locksmith who has a keyless entry remote tester to verify that a signal is produced when you press the liftgate button. If not, replace the remote. If the button is emitting a signal then the problem is probably related to a fuse, module, or wiring.

Judy: Depending on the year of your SRX either you hold your remote up to the start button on the dash, or put it in the center console pocket between the two seats.

I'm not sure. On one hand I don't think they programmed remotes to your car because they would have needed the key that you took with you in order to perform the programming procedure. However, page 5-34 of the owner's manual clearly states "NUMBER OF KEYS

A 2012 SRX. My locked door wouldn't open when I used key fob, so I used the mechanical key on the bottom of the fob to open door thinking I needed a new battery for which I keep a spare in console. When I opened the door the alarm went on for about 20 seconds. I then exchanged battery and tried to start the car. Nothing worked. Called Onstar, they said the alarm caused a signal to be sent disabling power and I needed the car to be towed to dealer. Upon delivery at dealer the car stated right up. What could have happened.

My 2011 key fob needs a battery change. Do I have to reset the key fob after changing the battery? And, how do I set it so that I cannot lock myself out by accidentally leaving the key fob in my car?
Posted @ Wednesday, July 08, 2015 7:41 AM by Tina Winter
Alan, there are many things that could have gone wrong there. If it was my car, I'd want a thorough diagnosis by Tech 2 Scan Tool. If the car was the problem, then the Tech 2 would probably find it. It could have been environmental, like if you were parked near power lines or construction equipment- they can jam car remotes and other things.
Tina, after changing the battery, sometimes re-synchronization is needed. On GM vehicles, re-synch is done by standing by the driver door and holding LOCK and UNLOCK on remote for 7 seconds.

2012 SRX, wont start, error said "2 remotes programed" Battery voltage is at 14.Tire pressure not being measured. Last week this happened and my husband charged battery and it has been fine since then. Could it be the battery and still have a normal voltage and no battery errors.
Posted @ Saturday, July 25, 2015 11:47 PM by Laurie
Voltage should be 12 - not 14. You don't want to over-do it which can blow fuses or cause extra wear on the electronics. There are a number of reasons the vehicle won't start. I'd check it with a scan tool, and address whatever error codes it reads. A Tech 2 scan tool is the best to use on a GM vehicle.

I was sitting at a stop light and notice the message "3 remotes programmed". Did someone hack my FOBS or car. I own 2 Fobs total. Can this be possible in traffic?
Posted @ Friday, August 21, 2015 7:09 PM by Selina
Selina, I'm 99% sure you were not hacked. I think you simply witnessed a glitch or diagnostic report on the DIC. If you bought the car used, then there is a third remote out there somewhere that you were not given.
