Changing the Battery on 2008+ Cadillac Keyless Entry Remotes

I've heard a few requests already for this type of post.  Many people are afraid of damaging the case of their Cadillac remotes because it is not obvious how to open them without causing damage.  Here is a demonstration video.

You can order batteries for your keyless entry remote here: Remote Batteries

Current GM Part Number: 21997127

Old Superceded Part Numbers: 15186200 #1, 15186201 #2, 15132197 #1, 15132198 #2, 10377295, 22730827, 15186203

FCC ID: LHJ011

Freq: 315 MHz

LED: None

Buttons: 3 (Lock, Unlock, Panic)

Note: GM has remade this remote many times.  They originally had memory #1 and #2 remotes.  The purpose was for vehicles with seat memory.  In reality it was ridiculous because the order that you program them determines which is #1 and #2.  The numbers on the back were just for reference.  In 2006 GM decided to discontinue using #1 and #2 and they started making un-numbered remotes.  GM's current part number for this remote is 21997127.  If you go to a GM dealer parts department you will get the new number remote no matter what remote you have now.  All the remotes with the part numbers listed above are identical inside and in function so we mix them together.

2009-2012 Cadillac Escalade Keyless Remote Tutorial

Keyless entry was standard on the Cadillac Escalade.  However, not every vehicle is equipped with remote start.

Press Lock to Lock all doors.  Press Unlock once to unlock the driver’s door.  Press Unlock twice to unlock all doors.  Press Power Liftgate Glass button to unlock the rear glass.  Press the Power Liftgate button to open or close the liftgate.  Press and hold panic to sound the alarm in the case of a mugging/carjacking/emergency or to locate the vehicle in a parking lot.

To remote start the vehicle press lock then press and hold the remote start button.  To turn off the engine press and release the remote start button.  When the vehicle is remote started it will use your climate control settings.  You’ll want to set them to cool the vehicle during the summer and to heat the vehicle during the winter.  See your owner’s manual for instructions to program climate control defaults.
